WHAT ARE STRETCH MARKS?

Elastic and collagen fibres are responsible for the support and elasticity of the skin. Stretch marks occur when the dermis undergoes an inflammatory process, and the elastic and collagen fibres break, forming scars that, over time, atrophy.

Generally, stretch marks are classified as:

  • Red or pink stretch marks (inflammatory process);

  • White stretch marks (atrophy).

The skin is the largest organ of the human body, and its main function is to protect, defend the organism, and regulate temperature. It has three layers, each of which has different characteristics and functions:

  • Epidermis – the outermost layer, visible to the naked eye. It protects against external damage and impedes the loss of water and the entry of substances and microbes into the body;

  • Dermis – the intermediate layer, composed of fibres, collagen, elastin, and colloidal gel. It provides tone, elasticity, and balance to the skin;

  • Hypodermis – the deepest layer of the skin, made up of fat cells. It supports the dermis and epidermis from the rest of the body, maintains temperature, and stores energy for vital functions.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF STRETCH MARKS?

Usually, stretch marks are associated with skin stretching that triggers inflammation (red stretch marks), followed by the breaking of elastic fibers and collagen, leading to skin atrophy (white stretch marks). Even with strong, interconnected fibers, rapid or excessive body growth can be one of the causes of stretch marks. However, there are other circumstances that can lead to their appearance, such as:

  • Sudden weight gain (closely linked to the "yo-yo effect," gaining and losing weight);

  • Increase in muscle mass (very common in men);

  • Diet;

  • Anorexy;

  • Pregnancy;

  • Lack of skin hydration (dry skin);

  • Obesity;

  • Breast implants;

  • Genetic predisposition;

  • Prolonged use of corticosteroids;

  • Use of contraceptives;

  • Synthetic hormone replacement.

Stretch marks can itch or sting, but generally, their initial symptoms are linear rosé or skin-colored lesions, or with a slight elevation. This can be considered the beginning of the formation of the so-called red stretch marks.

In the later stage, stretch marks are white, with varying thickness and width. They are very common on the buttocks, thighs, abdomen, and back.

It is recommended to consult a dermatologist, a dermatofunctional physiotherapist, or a graduate aesthetician to determine the appropriate treatment.

Ideally, the treatment should be performed during the inflammatory process (red stretch marks), or at the beginning of their appearance, when the skin's regenerative capacity is greater. Treating white stretch marks is more difficult and yields less significant results.

Today, treatment for this condition has been a reality since 2015, with very impressive results thanks to STRIORT®, capable of reducing the appearance of white stretch marks by up to 80% after the first session. This treatment is exclusively performed in aesthetic clinics by trained professionals.

The treatment in authorized clinics takes about 30 minutes on average, and up to two areas can be treated per session (e.g., back and abdomen, abdomen and thighs, thighs and armpits, armpits and back, and so on).

After 15 days from the treatment, a significant skin regeneration can already be observed (from the 21st to the 30th day, the collagen and elastin renewal cycle completes), and in most cases, the results are truly impressive.

For red and pink stretch marks, you can treat them at home with a mix of four products manufactured by Bothanica Mineral®, the brand holder, which promotes the regeneration, restructuring, and renewal of collagen and elastin fibers. However, if you want to speed up this process even more, treatment in a clinic is recommended, even for red, pink, or hyperpigmented stretch marks.

STRIORT® - End of Stretch Marks is a non-invasive treatment, currently considered the best option for combating all types of stretch marks, from pink or red to hyperpigmented or white.
